"Come From Away" at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater

Nothing beats playing great music with great musicians, for enthusiastic audiences, in a beautiful new theater, and telling an important story--with plenty of good laughs and dancing. I'm so grateful for the last few months of amazing theater-making. Photos by Mark Frohna.

What is "Music by Young Whippersnappers?" Our director, Donna Kummer, says it's anything written by composers who are younger than she. This includes Eric Whitacre, Ola Gjielo, and Dan Forrest. The centerpiece of the concert is Whitacre's setting of Ogden Nash's poem "The Boy Who Laughed at Santa Claus." Local powerhouse sopranos Diane Lane & Lydia Rose Eiche will be the voice of said boy, one Jabez Dawes, with piano accompaniment by Elna Hickson. But that's not all! The 26-voice chorus will also sing several arrangements of carols by these young whippersnappers, in achingly beautiful settings that feature a string quartet, soprano sax, and yes, even a full Celtic band - joining us for Joy to the World! (We'll even let the audience sing along on that one!) The concert will take place in the beautifully decorated sanctuary of Plymouth Church on Sunday, December 8th, at 3pm (no Packers game), and will include a reception afterwards. Suggested donation of $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors. We hope to see you there!
